The Somme – ‘Lions led by Donkeys’

The 1st of July marks one of the bloodiest battles in British military history .

There has never been a more brazen display of the contempt that our glorious leaders show for human life .

Some facts about the Battle of the Somme :

  1. During the Battle , 51 Victoria Crosses were awarded . 17 of them were awarded posthumously.
  2. There were  57,470 British casualties (killed and wounded) on the first day .
  3. The Allies suffered around 615,000 casualties , Germany around 500,000 .
