Hypergame theory (HT) is all about attempting to model opponents and situations well .
It is an extension of game theory (GT) & desision theory (DT) .
Game theory is the science of decision making when individuals interact with each other and how each interaction will affect the people involved .
Decision theory is based on knowledge about an individuals decision making processes , basically the theory of choice .
Hypergame occurs when one player does not know or fully understand all the strategies of a game. Hypergame theory extends the advantages of game theory by allowing a player to outmaneuver an opponent and obtain a more preferred outcome . The ability to outmaneuver an opponent occurs in the hypergame because the different views (perception or deception) of opponents are captured in the model, through the incorporation of information unknown to other players (misperception or intentional deception) .
These theoretical models have been transformed into complex mathematical models powered by super computers , they are used mainly in the fields of economics , politics & psychology . Although they are being increasingly deployed for the predictive programming & control of an individual & groups of individuals , even whole countries .
In layman’s terms it is about trying to predict the behaviour of an opponent & therefore gain an edge .
